1. What this remote is

The RR5501 is a dedicated replacement remote for LG televisions that use infrared. It is pre-coded for the AKB74115501 family and similar LG IR remotes.

It is not a universal remote and it is not an LG Magic Remote.

Insert two AAA batteries and use it. There is no pairing sequence, no code list, and no learning mode on this model.

Works

  • Power, volume, mute, channels, numbers, input / source
  • Menu, Home, Settings, Back / Exit, arrow pad, OK / Enter
  • LG IR features such as My Apps, 3D (on 3D sets), Widgets, and EmpLink where the TV supports them
  • Sleep timer on sets that used the original AKB74115501 layout

Does not work

  • RF / Bluetooth pairing (LG Magic Remote pointer, voice, remote finder)
  • QWERTY keyboard that shipped on some original remotes
  • Netflix / Prime / Disney+ dedicated keys if those keys were RF-only on the original
  • Non-LG devices (cable boxes, soundbars, Roku sticks, Fire sticks)
  • LG TVs that have no IR receiver and accept only a Magic Remote

If the original remote has a wheel, pointer, microphone, or says Magic / AN-MR on the model label, the RR5501 will only drive IR functions. Pointer and voice will not work.

2. Setup

  1. Turn the TV on with the power button on the set if you can.
  2. Slide the battery cover off the back of the RR5501. Some units have a tethered cover so it cannot be lost.
  3. Install two fresh AAA alkaline batteries. Match + and − to the diagram in the compartment.
  4. Replace the cover.
  5. Stand 6–15 feet in front of the TV. Point the top of the remote at the TV’s IR window (usually a dark plastic strip on the front bezel).
  6. Press POWER. The TV should respond immediately.

If POWER works, test VOL+, CH+, INPUT, MENU, and HOME. If most keys work, setup is done. Do not search for codes. This remote has none.

3. How to aim it

IR needs a clear line of sight. Do not operate it from another room, from behind the TV, or with the IR window covered by a soundbar, fabric, or a closed cabinet door. Sunlight or a bright IR heater in front of the TV can wash out the signal.

Typical range is about 20–25 feet in a normal living room. If response is weak, replace the batteries before assuming the remote is defective.

4. Button map

Layout follows the older LG IR master remote, not the current Magic Remote. Exact silk-screen names vary slightly by production run.

5. Confirm you have the right remote

Match the original remote model first

The fastest check is the model printed on the original remote (usually in the battery bay). We built the RR5501 as a direct replacement for these original numbers, among others:

We include AN-MR300 / AN-MR400 Magic Remote numbers in our compatibility list because those TVs also had an IR fallback. Pointer, voice, and RF pairing still will not work on the RR5501.

Typical TV families

The RR5501 covers a large set of LG LCD / LED / plasma models. Common series in this IR family include older LD, LE, LS, LN, LB, LF, UF, CS, LG, LH, LU, and some PA plasma sets (roughly late-2000s through mid-2010s).

Examples: 19/22/26/32LD350, 32/37/42LD450, 32CS460 / 32CS560, 32LN5700, 43/49/55UF6400 and UF6800 / UF7300 class sets.

If your TV is a 2018+ OLED / NanoCell that shipped only with a Magic Remote and no IR window, do not expect full function.

6. Troubleshooting

| Symptom | Fix | |---|---| | Nothing happens | Fresh AAA alkalines, correct polarity, aim at the IR window, 6–15 ft, lights off or dimmed. Try POWER on the TV itself first so you know the set is alive. | | Only POWER or CH works | The TV may be a later firmware / Magic-only set. IR still gets basic keys; smart keys may be RF-only. Confirm the original remote model. | | No pointer / voice / QWERTY | Expected. RR5501 is IR only. You need an LG Magic Remote (AN-MR series) for those functions. | | Volume does not change | TV speakers may be off, or audio is set to HDMI ARC / external. Open MENU → Audio and enable TV speakers, or control the soundbar separately. | | Menu / Home is wrong or missing | Some later LG smart UIs mapped those keys differently. INPUT, VOL, CH, and POWER should still work. Use the TV joystick if present. | | Works only at close range | Replace batteries. Clean the IR window on the TV. 7. Factory reset — there is none

The RR5501 does not store user codes. Removing batteries does not reset it.

If it never worked, it is either the wrong remote for that TV, dead batteries, a blocked IR window, or a Magic-only television.

8. Using an Anderic RRU401 instead

If you would rather run one of our universal remotes for the TV plus a soundbar or cable box, use code 2762 on the RRU401 / RRUR01 for this LG IR family.

  1. Program the RRU401 with 2762 under TV mode.
  2. Test POWER, VOL, and MENU.
  3. If 2762 is incomplete on a specific set, use the RRU401 auto-search method in our RRU401 user guide at help.anderic.com.
