How to pair my Fire TV Remote? - Amazon / Hisense / Toshiba / Insignia

This article applies to all Fire TV remote controls, including those from brands such as Insignia, Toshiba, Hisense, TCL, and Pioneer. Some models include the Insignia NS-RCFNA-21, Toshiba CT-RC1US-21, CT95018,  Hisense ERF3G84H, and more.

Pairing Instructions

Pairing the Remote

Step 1 - Reset the TV

  • Unplug the Fire TV from power for 10 seconds.

Step 2 - Turn the TV Back On

  • Plug the TV back in.

    Allow it to completely boot to the Home Screen before attempting to pair the remote.

Step 3 - Pair the Remote

  • Press and hold the HOME button for up to 30 seconds.

    The TV should recognize the remote and complete pairing automatically.

    Note: Your TV may display a message stating that the remote requires an update. Allow the update to finish (typically 1–3 minutes). Do not remove power or press buttons during the update.


How to reset the remote


If the remote will not pair or has stopped responding:

Press and hold all three buttons simultaneously for 30 seconds:

  • LEFT (Left Directional Button)
  • BACK
  • MENU (☰)

Release the buttons.

After resetting the remote, repeat the Pairing Instructions above.

Manual Pairing Through the TV

If automatic pairing does not work:

  1. Open Settings on the Fire TV.
  2. Select Controllers & Bluetooth Devices.
  3. Select Amazon Fire TV Remotes (or Voice Remotes with Alexa, depending on your TV software version).
  4. Select Add New Remote.
  5. Press and hold the HOME button on the remote for 10 seconds.
  6. When the TV detects the remote, press OK to finish pairing.

Your remote should now be connected.

Removing the Battery cover


The entire back of the remote serves as the battery cover.

Press down firmly and slide the cover in the direction of the molded arrow until it releases.

Install the batteries according to the polarity markings before replacing the cover.


Troubleshooting

The remote won’t pair

Try the following:

  • Install fresh alkaline batteries.
  • Power-cycle the TV by unplugging it for 10 seconds.
  • Wait until the Home screen fully loads before pairing.
  • Hold the HOME button for the full 30 seconds.
  • Reset the remote using the three-button reset, then try pairing again.
  • Try pairing through Settings → Controllers & Bluetooth Devices → Add New Remote.

The TV says the remote needs an update

This is normal.

Allow the update to complete without pressing any buttons.

The process usually takes 1–3 minutes.

The remote was working, but stopped responding

  1. Replace both batteries.
  2. Reset the remote.
  3. Re-pair the remote.
  4. Restart the TV.

The remote controls some functions but not others

If navigation works but certain buttons do not:

  • Allow any available remote firmware update to complete.
  • Restart the TV.
  • Reset and re-pair the remote.

Still Need Help?

If the remote still will not pair after completing all of the above steps:

  • Verify that the remote model is compatible with your specific Fire TV.
  • Confirm the TV’s Bluetooth function is operating normally.
  • If available, test the remote on another compatible Fire TV to determine whether the issue is with the remote or the television.
