Ceiling Fan Troubleshooting
This article is a general troubleshooting guide for most ceiling fans.
The fan does not move.
- The reverse switch may not be engaged.
- Push the switch firmly either left or right.
- The power is off or the fuse is blown.
- Turn the power on or check the fuse at the circuit breaker.
- Faulty wire connection.
- Turn the power off. Check all the wires in the canopy to ensure they are making a secure connection.
- Wires in the light kit are not wired correctly.
- Verify that the male and female plugs in the fitter plate are correctly connected according to the instructions provided in your fan's installation manual.
- Learning code process (if applicable) between the fan and the remote control may not have been successful, and learning code was not activated.
- Pair the remote according to the fan's or the remote's installation instructions.
Noisy operation
- Blades are loose.
- Tighten all blade screws
- Cracked blade.
- Replace the blade.
- Full range dimmer switch.
- Use only the included speed control device.
- Fan is new.
- Allow the fan a break in period of a few days, especially when running the fan at medium and high speeds.
- Motor assembly is loose.
- Verify mounting plate screws are secure according to the instructions provided with the fan.
Excessive wobbling
- Blades are loose.
- Tighten all blade screws.
- The blade is incorrectly attached.
- Reinstall the blades.
- Unbalanced blades.
- Switch one blade with a blade from the opposite side.
- The fan is not securely mounted.
- Verify that the mounting plate is securely in place.
The fan operates, but the light fails
- Wires in the outlet box are not wired properly.
- Check the wires in the outlet box and, if necessary, re-wire according to the fan's instuctions.
- The switch to the light is off.
- Make sure that the wall switch to the light is on.
- Wires in the fitter plate are not wired correctly.
- Verify that the Molex connections on the fitter plate are connected properly, as outlined in the instructions provided with your fan's installation guide.
